THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN MARCH

March is National Peanut Month. There is also a connection with baseball, which we all begin to hear about in March.

March 2 is the birthday of the beloved author and illustrator Dr. Seuss. His real name was Theodor Geisel. In 1927 he began publishing cartoons and humorous articles for a leading humor magazine. He worked for Standard Oil in advertising, and since his contract did not prohibit the writing of children's books, he began his first one, and the rest is history!

March 3 is National Anthem Day--President Hoover was the one who signed the bill in 1931 making The Star Spangled Banner our national anthem.

March 9: Charles Graham patented false teeth in 1822.

March 11: 21-year-old Mary Shelley published her legendary horror book, Frankenstein, in 1818.

March 14: Daylight Savings Time starts

March 14: This is Pi Day because the digits in this date correspond with the first three digits of pi (3.14). There really aren't that many holidays you can observe that have to do with. If you need another reason to celebrate, this day is also the birthday of Albert Einstein.

March 17: St. Patrick's Day is here!

Here are a few Irish toasts:

May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live!

May you live to be a hundred years--with one extra year to repent.

And these are Irish proverbs:

You've got to do your own growing, no matter how tall your grandfather was.

If you want praise, die. If you want blame, marry.

It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

The light heart lives long.

March 18: In 1966, the Scott Paper Company made a paper dress available for $1. The idea obviously didn't catch on.

March 29: Coca-Cola was introduced on this date in 1886.

Frederic Chopin, Michelangelo, Luther Burbank, James Earl Ray, L. Ron Hubbard, Rosa Bonheur, Spike Lee, Cesar Chavez, Fannie Farmer, and the Pillsbury Dough Boy were all born in March.
